The Cast

James Pfaeffle, M.D., Ph.D., is the quiet one of the bunch – unassuming and intensely focused.

He’s the guy Ortho Force turns to when patients require finger joint replacement or hand restoration, the kind of guy who spends his days putting tiny nerves together to heal a patient’s damaged hand.

An engineer by training, Dr. Pfaeffle received a doctorate in bioengineering and his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He then completed a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Washington. This combination has made him an expert in joint mechanics, ligament reconstruction and nerve repair.

Dr. Pfaeffle has taken minimally-invasive surgery to a new level, treating carpal tunnel syndrome by making a tiny incision, the size of a dime, in the lower forearm instead of the traditional two-inch opening.

Dr. Pfaeffle practices at Tri Rivers Surgical Associates in Butler, Cranberry/Mars and North Hills.
