The Cast

When Ortho Force rolls out, the detail man is Charles Spingola, M.D. His number one rule is “treat others as you would want to be treated” – that’s why Dr. Spingola is ready with an answer to any question a patient might have. A well-rounded surgeon with general expertise, Dr. Spingola has the answers when it comes to any and all orthopedic problems.

Although the Ortho Force members are men of action, Dr. Spingola can often be found staying late in his office to help ease a patient’s mind before surgery, patiently answering question after question. That’s just the way he’s made.

Born in Newark, New Jersey and schooled in the trauma units of inner city hospitals where violence is a way of life, Dr. Spingola came west in search of safer environs to raise a family. He found what he was looking for over two decades ago in Butler, Pennsylvania and joined the Ortho Force. He has never looked back.

“When I first came here, I lost my wallet in the street,” recalls Dr. Spingola. “A man actually ran after me to return it. I don’t think that would happen in Newark.”

Fighting the twin evils of aging and gravity keeps Dr. Spingola busy, but not too busy to spend time with his family and community. Parent groups for school, regular church attendance and trips to workplaces around Butler put him in constant contact with neighbors and patients. The likely chance that he’ll pass by former patients at the grocery store provides added incentive to do a great job for them the first time around.

As a surgeon, he’s done everything from joint replacement to carpel tunnel to rotator cuffs, with time to treat arthritis in between. To better understand when an injured worker can return to work after surgery, he’s even visited a coal mine and a steel mill to become familiar with the demands of those jobs.

When it comes to details, Dr. Spingola is the master.

Dr. Spingola practices at Butler Orthopedic Associates in Butler.
